7 Ways Teachers Can Use Claude or ChatGPT with Tiimli
Practical ideas for putting your session data to work
Earlier today we shared that Tiimli now connects to Claude and ChatGPT. The most common question that follows is a fair one: "Okay, but what would I actually use it for?"
Here's the short answer. You've already done the hard part by logging your sessions. All of those minutes, activities, results, and notes add up to a lot of useful information, and your AI assistant can help you make sense of it in seconds. Below are seven ideas to get you started, with example questions you can copy right into a chat.
1. Start your week with a quick check-in
Monday mornings are busy. Before the first bell, ask your assistant who might be slipping through the cracks. It's an easy way to make sure the quiet students get your time too, not just the ones who ask for it.
“Which of my students haven't I met with in the last two weeks?”
2. Walk into IEP meetings already prepared
Instead of scrolling back through weeks of notes the night before a meeting, ask for a summary. Your assistant can pull together dates, activities, results, and the notes you wrote along the way, and give you a clear picture of how support has gone.
“Summarize Jordan's reading sessions since August. What's improving, and where is he still struggling?”
For official documentation, keep using your Tiimli PDF and Excel reports. Think of the assistant as your prep partner, not your paperwork.
3. Get a head start on parent updates
Writing a warm, specific note to a family takes time, especially when you have a full caseload. Ask your assistant to draft one from your recent sessions, then read it over and make it sound like you. You know the student and the family best, so the final word is always yours.
“Draft a friendly update for Liam's parents based on his last six sessions. Keep it positive and mention one thing we can work on at home.”
4. Spot patterns you might have missed
When you're in the middle of it every day, it's hard to step back and see trends. Your assistant can look across all your sessions at once. Maybe one activity keeps leading to weaker results, or maybe a student's results have quietly improved over the last month. Either way, that's worth knowing.
“Across my 3rd grade group, which activities have the weakest results, and which are going best?”
5. Plan next week's small groups
Your session history is a great starting point for small-group planning. Ask who has been working on similar skills and who has had the least time with you, and you've got a first draft of your groups.
“Based on this month's sessions, suggest small groups for next week for students working on fractions and place value.”
6. Tell the story of your workload
Teachers do so much support work that never shows up on a schedule. When it's time for an evaluation, a conversation with your principal, or just your own reflection on your workload, ask your assistant to total it up. Seeing the number in black and white can be eye-opening.
“How many total support minutes did I log this semester, broken down by classroom and activity?”
7. Stay on top of progress reports
With a long list of students, it's easy to lose track of who already has a recent report. Your assistant can check your report history and let you know who's due.
“Which students haven't had a progress report generated in the last 30 days?”
A few tips to get the best answers
- Be specific about dates and students. "Since September 1st" works better than "recently."
- Good notes make better answers. The assistant can only summarize what you've written down, so a sentence or two of notes per session goes a long way.
- Double-check numbers that matter. For anything official, confirm totals against your Tiimli reports.
- Keep logging in Tiimli. The connection is read-only, so your assistant can look things up but won't add or change sessions.
- Check your district's guidelines. Make sure you're using an AI account and approach your school is comfortable with when it comes to student information.
